Our Core Values
Guiding our youth through the Seven Sacred Teachings
As we introduce the Seven Sacred Teachings into the world of children’s hockey, we honor the values that have been passed down through generations. These teachings—Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth—are more than just words; they are the pillars that guide how we live and how we treat one another.
These lessons, first experienced on the rink, stay with them as they grow. The Seven Sacred Teachings will help shape our young players into balanced, respectful individuals who carry these values into their homes, schools, and communities. Hockey is not just a game; it is a way to live these teachings and carry them forward, guiding our children to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Love – Building Strong Bonds Through Hockey
In hockey, we show love by caring for our teammates, respecting our opponents, and playing with heart. We lift each other up, celebrate everyone’s strengths, and understand that our success is shared. In every practice and game, love drives us to give our best, support one another, and create lasting friendships that go beyond the rink. Whether in victory or defeat, love reminds us that we are a team, and together, we can achieve greatness.
Respect – Honoring the Game and Each Other
On the ice, we show respect by listening to our coaches, valuing our teammates, and honoring our opponents. We respect the game by playing fairly and giving our best effort in every practice and game. When we respect others, we are also respecting ourselves, growing stronger in character. Win or lose, respect teaches us to walk with dignity, to learn from every experience, and to uplift those around us.
Courage – Standing Strong Together
Courage is not just about facing our own fears; it’s about standing together as a team when challenges arise. On the ice, we show courage by supporting each other, pushing through adversity, and trusting that, united, we are stronger. Whether we win or lose, we face every challenge side by side, never backing down. Courage means taking risks together, lifting each other up, and always giving our best, knowing that our strength comes from being a Penguin. In hockey and in life, courage teaches us that when we stand together, we can overcome anything.
Honesty – Playing with Integrity
Honesty is about being truthful with ourselves and others, both on and off the ice. In hockey, we show honesty by playing fairly, admitting our mistakes, and giving our best effort. We are honest when we follow the rules, respect the game, and stay true to who we are as players and as a team. Honesty builds trust, and trust makes us stronger. As teammates, we help each other stay true to our values, knowing it helps us all grow. In life, honesty teaches us to face challenges with integrity, making us better both in the rink and beyond.
Wisdom – Learning Through Experience
Wisdom comes from learning, both on the ice and in life. In hockey, we show wisdom by listening to our coaches, learning from our mistakes, and using what we know to make better choices for ourselves and our team. Wisdom is understanding that every game, practice, and challenge teaches us something new. It’s knowing when to lead and when to listen, and sharing what we’ve learned with others. As a team, we grow wiser together, helping each other improve and making decisions that benefit everyone, on and off the ice.
Humility – Putting the Team First
Humility is about understanding that no one player is greater than the team. In hockey, we show humility by working hard, listening to others, and recognizing that everyone has something to contribute. It’s knowing that we succeed together and grow stronger by lifting each other up. We celebrate our victories with grace and learn from our defeats with open hearts. Humility reminds us to put the needs of the team before our own and to always respect the game, our teammates, and ourselves.
Truth – The Heart of All We Do
Truth is the foundation that brings all our teachings together. In hockey, truth means playing with Love, showing Respect, having Courage, acting with Honesty, seeking Wisdom, and practicing Humility. It’s about being true to the team, true to the game, and true to ourselves. Truth reminds us that every time we step on the ice, we carry these values with us. It’s the understanding that, win or lose, how we play the game and how we treat one another defines who we are. A true player doesn’t just strive for personal glory but works for the strength of the team, on and off the ice. In the end, living by these teachings is what makes a Penguin a Penguin.
